How do you make an apron in one afternoon? Well let me show you!
Hello! I am so excited to be able to teach you how to make a child’s apron! I loved this project. I’ve been sewing since I was a junior in high school and even though I don’t get a whole lot of time to sit down and sew, I get a thrill out of small projects like this one that don’t take up a whole lot of time. So I did spend most of the afternoon making this apron. I started about noon and finished at 6, but that was also because I wanted to film the steps for you.
Due to time constraint, I was not able to show how to do a couple of steps in my video, but I will explain them here.
So the measurements for your cut out fabrics are:
– 1 14″ x 42″ rectangle for apron skirt
– 2 half circles for pockets (any length and width you want)
-2' 8 1/2″ wide x 7″ high rectangles for apron bib (front and back)
-2' 3″ x 42″ strips to make the neck and waist straps
-2' 2 1/2″ x 16 1/2″ strips for the waist band
Now for the belt that connects the bib to the skirt:
Take your two strips meant for the waist band and sandwich them wrong sides together. You will also want to put your already made waist strings in between your rectangles and pin them in, but make sure they are positioned where the access strings don’t get caught when you’re sewing. You will simply sew on the left and right sides and then you have a belt!
For your skirt pocket, take the unbasted skirt rectangle and measure about 9″ from the left side and then about 5 1/2″ from the bottom of the skirt.

Reflection
I loved this project! I am always looking for a reason to sew and this was the perfect reason. I love creating with my hands and even more so with sewing. I have always wondered how these video tutorials were made and I have an even bigger appreciation for them now that I have made one myself. I hope this will not be my last how-to video production!

I’ll be honest here, I thought this was the best-well done piece of the day! The music was perfect in the video and really added to the topic you chose. It was very informative and very easy to follow. It felt as if I was watching a professional How-To video and frankly could be used professionally! I will add the font at times was difficult to read, but other than that, I thought it was perfect! Some of your best work yet.
Keep it up, I can’t wait to work on the group project with you.
