When loved ones get older and are not able to care for themselves, some are put into rest homes. These facilities provide the necessary assistance for day to day living. However, some residents are dropped off and rarely see their families. This can have negative effects on both their health and self-esteem. Luckily a non-profit organization, Neighbor Love INC., steps in to help.<\/p>\n
Neighbor Love INC. is an organization sprouted from E Cubed International. <\/a>The group’s foundation is found in the Christian faith. Their purpose is:<\/p>\n To serve as the hands and feet of Christ by creating and supporting: Social, Medical and Ministry organizations. (E Cubed website) Neighbor Love volunteer Wendy Lambert says, “People don’t care what you know until they know that you care.” She has personal experience with seeing the joy on patients’ faces when she comes to visit them and bring them a bag of goodies. Their chapter in Danville,IL serves all four nursing homes in the city as well at the V.A. They see the residents multiple times during the year, especially around holidays like Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Veteran’s Day, as well as Mother’s and Father’s Day. The bags they deliver contain items like socks, lotion, snacks, as well as activity books. These items are both bought by Neighbor Love as well as donated. \n<\/strong>This was an amazing project that I really enjoyed doing. I learned so much about the older generation and how to help them. It was moving to see how each resident reacted to receiving their bag and just talking with another person. When I left Colonial Manner, I was so moved and about in tears because of how great of an experience this was. Sometimes when you are busy with everyday life, you forget about the people who might not have much going on and it can be very lonely. Overall, I loved this assignment!<\/p>\n\n\n
