While most U of I students spent this Saturday in bed or at the library, an ambitious handful participated in a quest for leadership entitled IGNITE. The flame got started in the ARC conference room.
At first, the sight of a room full of college kids standing in lines trying to solve their so called 'traffic jam' seems puzzling. But it's simple activities like these that give students like Katie McCraren confidence in their interaction.
“By using my communication skills and learning how to network will really benefit in the job process and things like that,' McCraren says.
After their 8-hour day meeting in small groups and hearing from trailblazing speakers, the students emerged with a passion for leading and made a couple new friends on the way.
IGNITE and other programs like it are put on by the Illinois Leadership Center, and are available many times throughout the year to any and all Illinois students. Visit their website for more information.
