For this first assignment, I had a much easier time than I thought I would. You can view my assignment here.'I wouldn’t consider myself much of a video editor but I ended up getting ahold of the Adobe Premier software fairly quickly. However the more interesting part was getting all of my film together.
The filming itself was rather interesting. Similar to the blogger that I read about, Joe Moyles, I braved the cold for a little bit while filming. When I started, I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to capture. I began filming things around my room and my apartment and the general theme that I ended up with was my school pride and the University of Illinois campus. I found the panning up and down to be a little difficult, so that would be something that I want to work on getting better at in the future. More work with the tripod and becoming more comfortable with that would be a big help for panning.
As for the editing, I’m excited for delving into more intricate things in the future. While editing this first assignment I feel like I got a good grasp of the basics of Adobe Premier, which allowed me to make a video that flowed smoothly. There are so many different functions that are possible in Premier that things at times got confusing while trying to edit. I’m used to using more simple applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel, so Premier seemed a little daunting at first. Just like anything else however, I feel the more I use it the easier it will become and the more I will understand each feature.
For whatever the next assignment is, I hope to do two things. First of all I want to start filming in different locations and also film different things. I hope to get to different parts of campus in order to diversify my videos and keep things new. Secondly, I want to learn how to use more video effects, which in that case I will need to make sure to pad all of my videos a little bit more than I did for this first assignment.
As time goes by in this class I think I’ll be able to improve on the work that I did for my first assignment. I’m excited to be able to compare this work that I did to the work I do at the end of the semester!
