'Even Non-Vegans Will Love It
This is the only assignment all semester I was truly looking forward to, and actually enjoyed doing. I knew right away that I would do a recipe for my how-to…because who doesn’t love watching other people make food? I had no idea what recipe I would choose though. '
Lately I’ve been interested in vegan'food, so I’ve been trying tons of vegan recipes. 'They aren’t as terrible as'I thought they’d be! 'And the substitutions are way easier than I was expecting. 'So, I decided to pick one of my new favorite recipes to do my how-to on. 'This vegan banana bread is by far the best banana bread I have ever eaten. 'It’s super easy to make, too. 'It’s definitely my new favorite breakfast treat.
- 1 1/3 cup mashed ripe bananas (3-4 bananas)
- 2 tablespoons ground flax seed
- 1/3 cup almond milk
- 1/3 cup coconut oil
- 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cup whole grain flour
- 1/4 cup chocolate chips (optional)
- 1/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
- 1 chopped banana for topping (optional)
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 45 minutes
Preheat oven to 350'F.
- In a large bowl use a fork to mash the bananas.
- Stir in the ground flax seed, almond milk, coconut oil, maple syrup, and vanilla extract until combined.
- Add in the dry ingredients one at a time in the order listed. 'Optional: stir in the chocolate chips and walnuts.
- Pour the dough into a loaf pan. 'Use a knife to spread it evenly. 'Add toppings if desired.
- Bake the loaf'in the oven for about'45 minutes, or until the top is slightly firm.
- Let the loaf cool for about 30 minutes.
- Slice and serve.
Finally, I made it through an assignment stress-free. 'I thought the day would never come! 'I actually really enjoyed the entire process of this assignment. 'I’m glad I didn’t wait until the last minute to start this because I probably saved myself several nervous breakdowns.
This assignment was right up my ally. 'I love love love making food, writing about food, etc., so I felt right at home'working on this assignment. 'While I’ve never done a video how-to for a recipe, I was so excited to jump right in and try it. 'I’ve seen so many'Spoon University video how-to’s, so I wanted to make mine as similar to those as possible. 'I was grateful that I got to shoot this assignment in my well-lit kitchen at my house, rather than my apartment on campus because lighting really is everything.
I had to re-shoot this assignment because after putting it all together, I realized I forgot to put a shot in where I mentioned what temperature to preheat the oven to. 'I also was not happy with the lighting in a few of my shots since it was getting darker out. 'So the second time around, I made sure to shoot with plenty of daylight. 'I was already making the bread for my parents one more time before I left for school anyway, so it was not inconvenient at all to re-shoot. 'I am so much happier with the shots I got the second time, so I’m very thankful'I had to time to do so.
I think I am finally getting better at editing. 'While, it took a lot longer than I was hoping, I’m really satisfied with the final product. 'I also think my lower thirds were good enough where a narration was not necessary. 'My only concern is that the words go by too fast, so I hope they’re up long enough to read without having to pause it constantly.
